reliability of Ipod touch?

Dec 3, 2008 12:41PM PST

I got an Ipod touch 2 gen (16gig) on nov 25th & well later today it would not turn on... not a thing, this morning it worked fine & was 90% charged. I got it from amazon so it was with-in the 30 return/exchange time.

How common is this????

I am definitely going to get the Apple extended warranty, since this is my 1st MP3 player, it is not a good 1st start.

I did back-up everything.. so that is good.

I have two of them

1st and 2nd generation. I've had the older one for 14 months and the newer one for 2 1/2 months and I've never experienced that sort of problem. I also have 5 other iPods that have a very good track record. Have you tried syncing or charging it again? If it doesn't work, definitely return it.

As far as reliability, with any device, there are going to be a few bad apples (pun intended). Of course, you don't want to be the one that buys it, but what can you do? Return it.

I already

returned it... I did not want too waste anytime.

I plugging into my pc it did nothing, same with the USB wall charger (that is hooked up to a surge protector).
Even if it did drained the battery down to 0%, from 90%+ in the 6 or so hours between this morning when it was working fine to later this after noon, something would have too malfunction; it was not plug in to anything.
Note I turn off the WiFi when not in use, the brightness is set all the way down & auto off is set to 1 min, too help save power.

must have been a bad apple Wink

got the replacement today

there is a diffrence. The new one battery life is longer, the other bad one I had to charge almost everyday, in 1 day it would drain to around 50% or even lower (20%) with just 3-4 hours of use. So far I used it for about 2 or 3 hours & it just drained like 5%.

The touch screen is more sensitive.

This one is from a newer lot, it came with the touch update pre-installed, the other one I had to download it.

The brightness setting is very different, setting it to very lowest on the new unit, I can barely see the screen, before on the bad unit the very lowest setting I had no problem seeing it.

The only thing some reason I can not install the 'Constitution for Iphone and Ipod touch' app. It say it is not compatable with my Ipod, it worked fine on the other one.

You might want to make sure that you have the latest version of the app. It is up to 1.3. Or try deleting the app from you iTunes Library as well as on the Touch, then redownload it. If that doesn't work, the developer does have a website that you might want to try getting help from.
