Reinstalling wmp9

Hi,
After having a crash on my pc with os w98se I had reinstalled os with the original version.After upgrading my wmp to wmp9 and restarting the pc,I get
a black screen and pc does not boot up anymore.
When starting up in safe mode and removing wmp9,all
works again.Does anybody has an idea what can go wrong.
I can mention that I had this procedure done months ago whithout having any problem.
