Reinstalling Windows Xp will not Complete Install

by Nichevo / January 28, 2010 5:44 AM PST

I received a blue screen on my Dell XPS M1210 and said my Windows/system32/config file was corrupt. So I been trying to reinstall Windows XP to fix the problem. Everything goes fine up the where it shows "setup will complete in 39 min" It gets to 34 mins and stops. I've tried it several times..and everytime it stops at the same place...and nothing else happens. Im thinking Im out of disk space? Only have a 80 GB hard Drive. I appreciate any advise or solutions to this problem. I didn't have the OS CD but Dell was good enough to send me one even though my warrantee had run out.

A printer or other USB device is plugged in.

Fix? unplug all USB things.

About the hard disk space. How much is free?
Bob

Thanks for the respond Bob, but there is nothing attached to the laptop only the power cord. As for free disk space, I'm really not sure how much free space it had. Is there still a way to find out? Again Thanks.

In reply to: Re-insatalling XP

Thanks for the suggestion to use Ubuntu to retrieve and backup some of my documents. I also deleted some programs and have 7.7 GB of free space. Tried to repair Windows XP, but again it stops at the some place "34 minutes left" I would think if there was not enough free space I would get a message. So Im still trying to repair Windows XP. Any more suggestions? Thanks for the help.

Looks like a repair install is dead.
