Question

Reinstallation and other problems

Apr 18, 2015 9:55PM PDT

I'm quite confused.
When you reinstall a pc, it is supposed to basically delete everything and make it as good as new, right?

Disregarding the fact that my laptop does not feel as good as new, I was wondering about something.
My laptop does not seem to actually delete everything when I reinstall it.
Examples:
It saves my desktop bacckground.
My trash bin is not empty, marks from before the reinstallation are still there.
It keeps my previous settings as they were(such as showing hidden files or file extensions)

Also-- I have another problem(s) with my pc.
Examples from before the reinstallation.
Sometimes my pc went blue screen of death and crashed with some errors. And other times when leaving a game or going to desktop, the screen goes black and nothing I do works.
Those are problems I've had since my very first reinstallation of my laptop and they have kept going on even after my other reinstallations.
Is there a reason for that?

My laptop is an asus that is about 2 years old.
If other information regarding it is required, then I shall write them down.

That depends in how you do the reinstall and from what source. Personally, I've done both repair installs and clean installs from a Windows disk, with different results.
By the way, you don't reinstall a PC. You (re)install an OS (on a laptop or PC).

Ahh, right right.

Well I used Windows 8 ability to reset to factory settings.
I was under the impression that it should delete everything and pretty much make it as good as new?

Reset

I definitely did a reset.
My brother even suggested I'd do it twice so he could see if what I told him was true.

The laptop came pre-installed with Windows 8 as it's OS system.

At 2 years I wonder if it's some gamer laptop

These get a few good years and then trouble. Folk usually don't keep up the monthly canned air routine so let's hear more.

As to the full restore, that varies with the model. You've proven the method you are using doesn't start over but at 2 years and gaming I worry. Tell more about exact model (link to asus's site for that would clarify) and your monthly canned air routine.

If memory recalls, it wasn't a gamer laptop

Sorry, I don't know what you mean by "monthly canned air routine"?
If it's related to how much I use it, then I use it pretty much, but that's because I also bring it with me to school and then I also use it when I get home.

The model is an Asus A95VJ-YZ115H, though when googling English pages for that didn't show up.

https://www.google.com/search?q=laptop+canned+air+use&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8 finds many articles. It's something makers don't write about since, well, imagine potential buyers that are put off by the work. They may buy a laptop from those that don't tell about this.

Nice 3rd gen i7 but those do throttle as the heat goes up. Since you are not keeping up with the maintenance I suggest you do this daily for a week, then weekly for a month and then monthly (1st of the month.)
