Reinstall VISTA after RAID add..???

Jan 8, 2008 1:40AM PST

After installing second like HDD in existing VISTA 32-bit system, do I have to reinstall VISTA OS when setting up either RAID 0 or RAID 1..? Or could I be so lucky as to have any other option..?

Unfortunately...

That's not a standard option since the logical drive must be created before data can be stored to it. There may be a little-known workaround, but chances are you're looking at a full reinstallation.

Sorry.

There was a way to do it......

Since I have an Intel mobo I was able to download from Intel and install something called the "Intel Matrix Storage Manager". After enabling RAID in Bios and booting to the Vista desktop, I was able to run a utility called the "Intel Matrix Storage Console" and choose what RAID level I wanted to set up and off it went setting up a mirrored drive, RAID 1, I chose. Took about 2 hrs to mirror on my 320Gb.

Have you tested your RAID?

I found that when I power down, unplug one of the drives it fails to fail over to the other drive. What good is this?
