Reinstall of Windows Vistas and getting Read Disk Error

Feb 11, 2010 6:02AM PST

So when I first start up my computer for the day it will give me the Read Disk Error ( Alt Ctrl Delete) to restart. When I restart I will put in my Windows Recovery Disk and It will get stuck on the Vistas Loading Screen ( which is suppose to go into the tools and recovery part). So I take the disk out and restart my computer. It loads and boots like normal and my computer will run fine for the rest of the day even if I restart it will start normal. Any thoughts on what this may be?

Parts that need to warm up. The BAD CAPS (see google) issue has this symptom as well as hard drives that need a little warm up time. Do your research and if no BAD CAPS get ready for a hard drive replacement.

Too bad you didn't post the make and model. My answer changes if this is a HP DV6000 or DV9000 series.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=disker&q=Gateway+Fx7020+disk+read+error finds no epidemic issue so AFTER you have backups (PLURAL) then you can try a Hard Disk Test program like this -> http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT

That works on most makes and lets us sniff out if it's the drive.

At one year (after your 2 backups) I'd do the following and as I'm putting the cover back on I'd give all the cables a little push home.
