Registry Mechanic Ran Now IE & Task Bar different Color HELP

Nov 6, 2008 3:47AM PST

I downloaded Registry Mechanic from Cnet yesterday, the free version, I ran it on my Computer, and fixed whatever problems it brought up to be fixed.

Now, my Internet Explorer screen is gray, my task bar is gray...and the buttons look different than before.

I tried changing the settings, but nothing has worked.

How do I get it back to the regular settings, I'm using Windows Vista.

I hope I didn't mess anything up. I was having Microsoft C ++ something error messages when trying to upload 400 some pics to SmugMug...my IE kept not responding.

Anyone help me out here? Is there some other program I should have used?

Thanks!

I have a couple thoughts..

Since I don't use Registry Mechanic or Vista, I notice RM will make a backup, did you make one? If so you may be able to fix it with the backup. You might also try Vista's system restore, to before you ran RM.
Maybe someone else that uses these may have a better answer.

Just One More Reason Why It's Not Always Safe...

...to use automatic registry cleaners.. Be SURE you know what it's removing..

As Larry said above, I believe Registry Mechanic has an "Undo" option. Try it.. Sorry, I don't have it on this machine...

Hope this helps.

I tried to Restore through RM.
Nov 6, 2008 11:04AM PST

I emailed Registry Mechanic about my problem. I did use the Restore function on RM, but the appearance is still messed up?

I re-ran a scan and attached a log file for them, and sent a screenshot to them. Hoping I get an answer, but they said if I restored, and it was still there, it's not a problem from RM.

There is an option in there to restore to a later date, like 10/28...I wonder if that would help?

I didn't know what I was fixing on there, bad mistake on my part.

Any other ideas??

My husband figured it out, there was a problem in my theme settings, it wasn't on Windows Vista Theme...I changed it to that, and my screen looks correct now!

I'm deleting Registry Mechanic, but want to make sure I don't have any more probs from it! Ugh!

Glad you got it fixed...

Thanks for posting back.

If you want a cleaner, I would suggest CCleaner. I have used it for years to get bits and pieces of left over programs that I have installed and then uninstalled. It's a very safe program and makes a backup, I have never had a problem with it. Actually you don't really need a registry cleaner, sometimes they can do more harm than good.

I ran into the same thing. Registry Mechanic turns off several services when it optimizes, including the Theme Manager, which, for example, removes access to your current theme if you're running XP.

Control Panel -> Admin Tools -> Services

Scroll down to Themes and change it back to automatic. Then select the theme you want with Desktop -> Properties -> Themes
