I don't have a solution for you, but if there is a disk error, you may want to run the Error Checking scan on your hard disk, to see if any errors are there.

Open My Computer, Right click the C drive, select Properties, click the Tools tab, and select "Check Now..." under Error Checking.

Make sure no programs are running on your desktop, and turn off the screen saver. You may have to disable your AV and firewall but make sure you are not connected to the internet if you turn off your firewall.

export key

You could export the key you are going to delete (right-click>export). The key can then be restored by opening the .reg file you created.

I am not sure that I have an answer for you either, but I suggest that you try downloading "Registry Healer" (go to Google) and try running it.

Others in these forums have also found this little program to be good and it just might fix your prob ... at worst it will do no harm.

It is not free (nor is it expensive), but I can't recall how much the trial version will attempt to fix for you, because I long-since bought the full version and have relied on it ever since.

Oh - as for doing no harm: if you choose the option of "expert mode" and decide to go into the registry on your own account; then of course harm might be done.

Best of luck, Gerry

If you have adware, then you had better run/obtain Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D first.

Ad-Aware should never be confused with Adware, because Ad-Aware SE WILL identify and block/remove Adware (so will Spybot) and other malware which might pretend to be "goodware".

Others here might vary in what are the finer points of keeping your system safe and clean, e.g. my recommendation for "Registry Healer" (to which I can add "System and Internet Washer" - eWasher), but I think that no one will dispute Ad-Aware SE and Spybot ... both basically free, though I think it is well-worth buying Ad-Aware SE Plus (or Professional) and that one ought to donate to Spybot.

registry backup problem

You should not need to backup your registry as part of removing adware, unless of course you've got a nasty version of CWS. All the reputable scanners-SpyBot, Ad-Aware SE, Spy Sweeper etc. will remove the malware entries from your registry for you. That is one of the strengths of these programs. Unless of course you are (like me) a real reghacker and have no problem going into the registry.

Best,
