My son's computer got blowen up about 2 years ago and he now has a labtop. He has the original xp pro (fv) disks and I have contacted microsoft 5 times regarding how the activation can be changed to me which I understand can be done. Problem is microsoft xp home page will not give me any response. How do I get them to let me know what needs to be done. mech 174

The full retail?

You may be over anxious. You may install it on your new hardware, let it activate and that's that. I've moved to new hard 3 times since (this is just mine and does not include how many times the office has done this) and never have had a glitch in reactivation.

The reason they may not respond is simple. You'll have to pay for the answer. Figure about 35 bucks.

One possible way

is to install it on the laptop, XP should then give you a phone number to call where you can explain why it is being installed on a different system.
