Regeristing new Xp installation

Feb 16, 2009 8:43AM PST

Bought a laptop that has an "illegal" copy of XP PRO installed. The operating system is now corrupted. A local repair shop gave me an XP disc they said to use to reinstall the OS. They said to use the key (Serial) number listed on the bottom of the laptop. The key number was for 98 SE. If I use that to register will it work to install XP? Or will I end up with a dead formated computer?

and get a legal copy of XP. Otherwise you'll be screwing with the laptop forever and it'll never work right. Using another key is not an option.

I Googled that support site you suggested.

Not good. I would not visit the site.

copyright problem

I also experienced the same problem. Most of the computer sellers installing software without copyright. This will be a main problem of the users after one or two year. The awareness of using copyright and buying copyright software should be done.
