Did you do as it said?
Jun 11, 2005 4:46PM PDT

That is, see if the path was correct - look in c:\windows and see if the file regedit.exe is there.
If not insert your xp CD and click>Start>run - in the box type
-----------
SFC /scannow
-----------

If you dont have a XP installation CD the best thing I can suggest is to cheat - that is, winXP has another file called regedt32.exe - copy it from the win\system32 directory and rename it.
Let me know how you go

Try This
Jun 12, 2005 2:27AM PDT

Open Internet Explorer/Tools/Internet Options/General tab, click the Delete Files button then try going to that site and clicking on that download again.

What is the exact error message that you're getting? I can click on that download and get the .reg file with no prioblems at all.

I'm at a loss as to what the problem with that computer is. If I click on the word ''Enable'' at that link line 213 I can download the ''disableregistrytoolsundo.reg'' file and save it to my hard drive just fine. I've never seen a problem from anyone trying to download files from that site before. I'm wondering if someone has put some type of restrictions on that computer.

Hmm
Jun 12, 2005 2:59AM PDT

Im not sure either, all Im trying to do is download yahoo messenger and Limwire Sad and I cant fix the problem....... Ive done a system recovery and that didnt even fix the problem... when I contacted HP support they told me it may be due to spyware on the computer but that didnt fix the problem either

Did you try SFC or copy regedt32?????
Jun 12, 2005 3:05AM PDT

as I first suggested??

- Collapse -
yes
Jun 12, 2005 3:06AM PDT

I copied the file and pasted it into Windows and then renamed it regedit.exe and nothing happened

- Collapse -
But
Jun 12, 2005 3:07AM PDT

I didnt quite understand what you meant by the SFC so I didnt try that

Although not directly your problem solution...

Confused
Jun 12, 2005 3:34AM PDT

I have NO idea what so ever of how to do the SFC

- Collapse -
Possibly
Jun 12, 2005 3:39AM PDT

I think someone has hacked my comp because I was viewing the other thread of regedit help in the SFC post and then the page just closed out by itself, and when I went back to it and read it closed out by itself again Plain

Ok... do this
Jun 12, 2005 3:41AM PDT

Start>Run> Type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes and with a space after sfc. Have your Windows XP disk read and place in drive when prompted. Then just sit back and follow any prompts. Takes a little while.

For information: System File Check (SFC) checks your computer for any missing or corrupt system files. You may want to re-read all posts on that the link that I referred to you... just for a better understanding of what you are doing.

Best of luck,

Glenn

Best of luck!

Hopeless
Jun 12, 2005 3:48AM PDT

Should look like this when typed...
Jun 12, 2005 4:10AM PDT

Into the "Run" window:

sfc /scannow (Note the space between sfc and the forward slash)

I just did it and it works!

Ok got it
Jun 12, 2005 4:17AM PDT

But I dont have the cd for the version of windows Im using

- Collapse -
Those instructions are for Win XP...
Jun 12, 2005 4:22AM PDT

I assumed you are using XP since you are in the XP forum. If you do not have the CD then you cannot do the scan since Windows needs the CD to check against what is on your system.

Sorry but I have no other solution to your problem. Would be interested in learning how you come out.

Glenn
