RegCleaner 4.3 suddenly stopped working?

Sep 5, 2007 10:47PM PDT

OS Windows XP SP2 - When trying to re-install RegCleaner I get the following message: Error opening file for writing: "C:\Program Files\RegCleaner\RegCleanr.exe...
Hit abort to abort installation,
retry to retry writing the file, or
ignore to skip this file. I choose ignore and the program is apparently installed (I see the writing to the registry), but when I press on the icon nothing happens. I really like this program can anyone help.
Thanks.

Try...
Sep 5, 2007 11:03PM PDT

"C:\Program Files\RegCleaner"

Uninstall and then delete the above directory to help give it a fresh start. Also I'd run disk cleanup after the uninstall.

RegCleaner 4.3 suddenly stopped working?

Thanks for your reply Bob. I once again uninstalled and reinstalled, this time it installed without the error message. To get it to work I had to change the compatibility mode in Properties. Now when I want to
see what key would be removed if I choose to remove the item, the programme freezes. In the past when I first changed to XP changing the compatibility mode allowed me to see the key too. Any ideas. Thanks

What I would look for is...

In the EVENT VIEWER next. I wonder if there is something going on with "permissions".

It may be necessary to uninstall the program, remove the "C:\Program Files\RegCleaner" as Bob suggested, the downloawd a new setup file of RegClean as the current setup file may be corrupt.BTW, version 4.42 is now availble.

An excellent free tool is RegSeeker

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for your replies.Bob I am the administrator of my pc and I don't see anything in Event Viewer regarding permissions? Charlie, I am referring to RegCleaner not RegClean, they are two different programmes. Thanks anyway.

Then I go full manual.

That is I would run REGEDIT and drill down (navigate) to the registry key in question. A right click, properties to look over permissions, ownerships and more.

-> Some think that since they are "administrator" that these permissions don't need to be looked over. Sorry, they do.
