Regarding Stereo Speakers for Samsung Television

Jul 9, 2008 12:54PM PDT

Excuse me for my ignorance of audio, but is it possible to use AudioEngine's A5B speakers with my Samsung LN32A450?

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but on the back of my television there are audio-out L/R connectors and on the back of the A5's, there are audio-in L/R connectors. It is possible to connect the two directly together correct?

If the above is true, then what is the benefit of using A/V receivers in comparison to just directly plugging them in together?

Thanks in advance!

amp is typically quite modest at a few watts to maybe 15 watts or so. That does not go too far for speaker volume. That is where the A/V receiver gets used as amplifing power source. It is an entire magnitude of higher power sound volume.

Like so many others, I am struggling with understanding how best to improve audio for HDTV at reasonable cost. How do I amplify sound? I take it an AV receiver is required with speakers. Would you be able to recommend a modest system?

and you have L/R audio pre-outs like the OP did here, then powered monitors will work. Whether the ones he listed, or perhaps some Behringer Truths or even KRK or Mackie. Or even Quad.

If you want discrete surround, then you will need both receiver and even more speakers.
