Music and movies

No you don't need any software for the psp Happy, you simply attach the psp via a usb to your computer and it comes up as an external hardrive. To get music on it you create a file named 'music' in the psp file, you then simply drag mp3's into this file for them to play. Movies are a little more difficult but still pretty easy, go to http://psp.connect.com/ and follow the setup instructions. In order to get home videos onto it you use psp video 9(google it) to encode them and then drag them into the MP_ROOT\100MNV01 folder you then name them under a 'MV4xxxxx' (x is any number)fromat. Then after sepeparating yor psp from your pc it should play from your memory card, there is a good chance you'll nedd to uprade to 512 mb+ for videos. If you have a mac i have no idea though. Hope i can help!

all mp3 files can be played on PSP.

Regarding movie, you need to download imtoo psp video converter to obtain special psp mp4 file. in general, psp mp4 file includes two file type, one is .mp4, another is .thm, after obtaining psp mp4 file, rename them to play on your psp.
