I have a similar 2GHz Amd based laptop. Imagine my surprise at doing over a billion integer math operations a minute. It's a value machine and it did amazingly well at our custom code written in C# 2008.
Since you can't change the CPU in your case, consider getting the laptop you really wanted.
One thing. Check that your power profiles and don't expect it to run full tilt under battery power (unless you changed this.) I don't offer a tutorial on this.

I have purchased the Hp pavilion 1104-AX dv5 laptop with AMD turion(tm)X2-dual core Mobile processor, with 3Gb ram.the computation speed of this processor is too low, when compared to the intel processors,I encountered this problem while running ANSYS FLUENT software(mechanical engg software).the problem is that the number of iterations performed by my system per minute is hardly 5-7,where as for intel core two duo or dual core it found to be around 18-20.
But I heard that AMD processors are the best for such type of computational work.why is it so....?
and for this problem if there is a solution let me know.
