Since we are talking DSL all I needed to was move the DSL modem router from ATT to the new location and plug it into the new post plug and phone jack.
As you know, the modem router does not get a filter so besides that there nothing to do after the move.
I have two laptops and an old desktop with an ATT modem and dLink (or Linksys) router. ATT now has a combined unit with the modem and router in one unit.
My desktop is so old I plan on replacing it with a new laptop and getting a wireless printer. My hub is now in the bedroom but I have a phone jack in the LR where my Direct TV is and I would like to move the new modem/router unit to that jack so I could hardwire my DTV to the unit for Direct on Demand.
With all that said, I can't recall the install process for the unit. Will it have to be hardwired to a laptop to set up initially? I know my laptop will find the signal will I be able to do it wirelessly from the start? I assume I will have to put in a whole new security code and all for the network right?
The master plan is to have the new unit adjacent to the Direct receiver and then run 3 lap tops and a wireless printer from it located in the center of the house.
Thanks for any help.
