Reformatted My Hard Drive And Cannot Reinstall MS Office Pro

Feb 7, 2008 11:38PM PST

Hello,

Reinstalled all Sony Pre-Loaded software, which did NOT include any Prior version of MS Office. (Other than a Trial
Version of Office 2003 which I never used or installed. It's still in my
computer) Have no idea what version it is. Simply doesn't say because it's never been installed. It's sitting in the same start menu as all of the other MS Office 2007 Programs.
In another message forum I was told to delete it. However, Office 2007 Pro worked fine for 2 days with the Trial program still sitting in the Start folder.

I installed MS Office Professional 2007 and it's worked for 2 days without a hitch. Today, I get the error message when I try to use
Outlook "Cannot start MS Office Outlook. Cannot initialize MS Office Shared
Utilities. Restart your computer Or reinstall MS Office Outlook." No Luck!!
Also, when I try to start up MS Word, the message says "Not enought memory
to load Word." (I have 2 Gig of Ram and a 320 Gig hard Drive???)

When I insert the Office Pro 2007 disk to Reinstall, the message is: "The
path you have chosen does not point at a qualifying upgradable product.
Click Try again or Cancel to quit setup."

I don't have ANY previous versions of ANY Office Suite program to use.
I do have the disks for Office 2007 Pro.

For the record, I am an American living in Cali, Columbia. It's over $4.00
a minute to call anywhere in the US for help.

I would sincerely appreciate any help or suggestions that anyone can
provide.

NOTE: Also have Norton Internet Secuirty 2008 & Spysweeper installed.

Thanks in advance,

Robert

I misread the above.

Later you post words that make me think you have an upgrade version of Office. Just FYI, those have been known to fail unless you have the real qualifying product and not some preinstalled versions.

My Bad not specifying that my Office Pro 2007 IS an Upgrade
Feb 8, 2008 4:07AM PST

Thanks Bob for getting back with me. Sorry I didn't mention that my Office version was an original, purchased upgrade and not a trial version.

After your first message and the MS article link, I realized the problem was Not having MS Works Ver 8 installed on my computer. So for 2 hours I contacted Sony Chat and they told me to 1. Uninstall the existing UPgrade ver of MS Office Pro 2007. Then Install the 60 day Trial version of MS Office 2003. Then go to Sony Vaio Recovery and install MS Works VEr 8 (since this IS a qualifying upgradable product.) Once done, Re-install MS Office Pro and everything should be fine.

However, when I tried to Uninstall MS Office 2007 from Control Panel I got the following info. I copied this from my reply to Kees a few minutes ago and here it is.

But, thanks for trying to help out. If you hadn't given me the link I wouldn't have known to contact Sony for a solution.

"I did a chat with Sony and they said the same thing. First uninstall the existing MS Office Pro 2007, Then Install the 60 day Trial version of Office 2003. Then uninstall it from Control Panel. Finally install the pre-installed MS Works VEr 8 so that it becomes the qualifying UPGRADE program that will allow me to re-install MS Office Pro.

Only new nightmare/problem is that when I tried to uninstall the existing MS Office Pro 2007, I just got this message "The product installed has been corrupted. Run setup again from CD, DVD or other original installation source."

Clearly, I tried to run Setup again and keep getting the error message: "The path you have chosen does not point at a qualifying upgradable product. Click Try again or Cancel to quit setup."

No matter which way I turn I'm in a Catch 22. This has been going on for nearly 2 weeks.

So now what? Any ideas? I'm at a loss.

But, thank you for trying to help me.

That's a MS thing.

I'd love to tell you a solution but Microsoft is pretty persnickity about licenses. If you are like me, find your old copy of Word 97 or such to get it done.

Thanks for getting back with me. Your suggestion seems like the only option I have. Will do.

Sincerely appreciate all your input.

If 2003 is sitting in the start menu ...

it's installed. Why not uninstall it? You might need to use the Windows Installer Cleanup utility for that, if you don't have the Office 2003 CD.
