Reformating ipod for windows use

I was wondering how to enable disk use with my ipod classic on a windows computer. I think that i just have to reformat using disk utility in ms- dos file system but was not sure. I am running tiger with the latest version of itunes.

Format iPod

Your iPod will need to be formatted using the Windows version of iTunes.

It is possible, but not recommended, to use a Windows formatted iPod on your Mac but it is not possible to use a Mac formatted iPod on your Windows machine.

Unless there is a fancy piece of software that will do it for you.

but won't the mac computer reformat the ipod back to mac when it is connected again.

the iPod will only be formatted if you tell iTunes to Restore it.

Remember that I said that the Mac can read both a Windows iPod and a Mac one?
