when you do another system restore at the command prompt after you have formatted type format m/b/r and press enter then you will never be bothered with that ever again
my stepson called me other day and said fix his PC. which i did attempt. his home page was highjacked. it had norton antivius on it which i dont like so i attempted to download and install AVG Free. it would not let do it or install and run adaware or spybot.it wouldnt run system file checker or chkdsk or system restore. the machine in question is a HP 521N. i tried the nondestructive recovery but that didnt help at all. i finaly did a destructive recovery with same results. this machine had many many problems. since all attempts failed i was leary about the recovery partition not being hacked to. so i went and bought an upgrade XPHE disc and reformated the machine. the install went great. now the questions. 1, when i ran the upgrade disc it didnt ask if i wanted to upgrade so i knew i was doing clean install. it never asked for proof of prior licensed OS. 2, when i rebooted the machine there was 2 OS lines in boot.ini and had to choose which to load which i chose the WXPHE that i installed. the other line said code name whistler. i edited out the second line in boot.ini and all is well but but is still puzzling. when i started the install i deleted all partitions so it should have been clean.
