Refilling Printer Cartridges Vs. Buying a new one

Feb 21, 2006 4:41AM PST

I am just wondering if its better to refill your cartridges at a KIOSK or store. Or is it better just to buy new one at the store? Any Thoughts?

Refilling
Feb 21, 2006 5:23AM PST

I've been refilling my cartridges for over 3 years now and never had a problem. I suppose it is possible to have problems with some inks, but in my experience, it's unlikely.
Consider that if you have a machine under warranty, you may void the warranty by using ink other than what is recommended. Otherwise, I would highly recommend refilling as it is the least expensive solution.

Never had much luck with refills, and given that half the time a new printer is cheaper than a new ink/toner cart... You could just buy a number of cheap inkjets or laser printers, take all the ink/toner carts out, then flog the extra printers on eBay or something, and come out ahead.

My experience or survey says...

I always had good luck with me doing "black refills" more often than color. On top of that i really don't do much of "photo" printing but alot of text or webpages. Once a get a problem, I pitch or trade-in the used ink cart for a ream of free paper at Office Max. So many times I buy color ink carts more and those are refills too rather than new. I've had my HP deskjet 820Cse for years and still going strong. I do others but mostly Hp printers. The later fancy or photo printers are picky, so get refills or supplies that reflect the end usage or suffer the consequences. Last, Epson printers seem to get into problems with home refills or refills in general or cheap supplies so be careful. You can't simply swap an incart in an Epson as a HP and get good output on the first try. Espon's are problematic or picky to be nice. -----Willy

Refilling vrs buying new

I've never had much luck doing the refills myself. Sometimes you can find a company in your town that will do the refills for you. There are also some good 3rd party vendors out there. One I have ordered from is private.abacus24-7.com. I was satisified and would order from again. There are others...but that is just another option, without having to spend a lot of $$$ on the manufacterer replacements.

http://megatoners.com/

I've been using them for years without any problem.

i.e. - - - megatoners.com as one.

Of course some printers will warm you that you are not using their cartridges and possible harm may result.
