General discussion

reducing overscan?

Sep 4, 2005 9:26PM PDT

i have a samsung HL-P5067W HDTV with my PC connected to it via a DVI-to-HDMI cable using an gefore MX-4000 based video card (ASUS V9400-X/TD). the TV's native resolution is 1280x720, which is what i have the the video driver set to. the picture fills the screen but because the TV overscans, the edges are all off the screen which can be a real annoyance. what are some alternatives on fixing this? any thoughts appreciated.

Some have a "Game" mode.

I've seen some TVs have a game setting which helps. Overscan is primarily a TV function which you have to scour your TV for. I won't look it up.

i wish there were a delete button! i just now right-clicked on the desktop and saw that were a new category for "samsung DLP". it allows me to underscan and it works great! this was undocumented...i've scoured the tv's manual 4 times as well as the video card's manual with no mention of this.

Glad you found the setting.
Why do TVs still overscan is a good question??? OK, back in the vacuum tube days there was some logic to doing this.
Talk about bening suck with old technology.
