Red X when I visit a website

by Alan Copeland / August 8, 2005 12:02 AM PDT

I try to go to Roadrunner's speed test and all I get is Red Xs. My main PC gets the site correctly. This started when I upgraded to ZA Ver. 6, so I uninstalled V 6 and went abck to ver. 5. It appears that all settings in ZA are the same for both PCs but only one shows the site properly.???

Running XP Home/Internet Explorer.

Hi Alan.

Not sure if you're saying that you still have the problem even after uninstalling ZA 6.

Did this problem happen in another browser?

As it seems to have been the upgrade to ZA that caused this, you could re-install the new version of ZA and then open ZA up and in Program Control, Programs tab, scroll down to Internet Explorer and see what the settings are there.

ZA 6 has more settings as I'm sure you have found out, and maybe one of the security settings for IE is different. I have the following settings on my ZA entry;

SmartDefense = Auto
Trust Level = 3 green bars, (no, I have no idea what this signifies).
Access - Trusted=tick and Internet=tick
Server - Trusted=X and Internet=X
Send Mail = ? (Question mark).

Are your settings any different?

I uninstalled the new Z and reinstalled the old. I had the same issue on my new PC but was able to reconfigure the new ZA to allow me to view this site. I assume ZA is the culprit but it is possible something else is to blame. The only other thing I have done to this machine is add Spyware Guard and upgrade Ad Aware.

ZA is still the main suspect with me

Consider the facts; (as Holmes would say to Watson, Happy ).

1] Two machines, IE on both working perfectly

2] Both machines, upgrade ZA to v.6

3] Both machines unable to read RoadRunner speed test results

4] Desktop, ZA 6 reconfigured, IE works.

5] Other machine, ZA uninstalled, Spyware Guard installed and AdAware upgraded.

6] Other machine IE now works.

7] Conclusion? ZA is the common denominator to both computers.

Elementary my dear Watson.

Ooops! Sorry, was getting carried away there. But if it was me I would not let ZA off the hook so easily.

I turned ZA off and still got the red X. It's not the end of the world if I can't run their speed test on this PC, it just annoys me.
