Red X's

May 17, 2007 2:26PM PDT

Why do many of my e-mails have red x's instead of pictures that won't "show picture" when I right click it? I have an HP MCE XP desktop. Some pics show in some e-mails, but not in others. How can I fix this? I use yahoo e-mail program, mostly, and this is the one I'm referring to. Thank you.

I too have that problem with Yahoo mail
May 19, 2007 8:14AM PDT

I looked into it (a little) quite awhile ago and figured that it may just be a quirk with Yahoo Mail. I never experienced any other problems loading images on regular web pages. I just started having my contacts mail the more important images as attachments.

I just wanted to mention that in case you try those fixes and none seem to work for the Yahoo email problem.

I guess if all else fails you could try a different web mail service (like HotMail). I always thought it would be interesting to have someone "CC" me emails to another webmail provder along with Yahoo to see if it is just a Yahoo thing.

Note: some of the "joke" emails with embedded photos that people send around can often be found by searching the web for the subject or relative content (they're often posted in blogs and forums). Those emails may not always be safe anyway, but with web based email you don't have to worry about it quite so much since they are usually scanned by the service.

If nothing worked so far try this...

This may help, but no guarantee...
Open Yahoo (Beta) email, click 'Options' (upper right), click 'Spam', make sure 'Always show images, except in Spam folder' is checked.

If you're using the old Yahoo email, Click 'Options', click 'Spam Protection', and in 'Image Blocking' select 'Don't block any images'.

Hope it helps...

Small Red X in BOX, Plain Text or HTML Rich Text.

This has something to do with HTML; I.E. When you send Email, you're asked " Plain Text, or Rich Text HTML"
This as much as I know for now. Suggest go to Google and enter plain text for Email or HTML more details for use.

"When you send Email, you're asked " Plain Text, or Rich Text HTML"

When email is written in plain text images can't be embedded anyway, so that obviously has absolutely nothing to do with it.

As I mentioned before, it happens intermittently, I could get 2 emails forwarded from the same person at the same time, images would show up in one but not the other. (The really odd thing was the size of the email without the images would still be equivalent with the size it would be if images were present.)

I looked into awhile ago (as much as I cared to anyway) and even wrote Yahoo Help about it. The first time I got a canned answer about enabling images (which I already had done) and the second time I didn't receive a response.

I have my contacts send emails with embedded images to my POP email now, so I stopped worrying about it. I've heard of others with the problem with Yahoo mail so I'm fairly certain it's a glitch with it.

If anyone else has experienced it with Yahoo please "chime in".

Red XXs in Box and some other things
May 26, 2007 10:39AM PDT

Thank you to those that have shown an interest in this problem.
Yahoo have a lot of problems to sort out - or loose it - I know that a particular Group have a constant problem getting their Newsletter out via Yahoo , The worst problem is that to be able to make contact and get some sense out of these people is extremely difficult. And while I'm on that 'tac' what about the run around that Microsoft give you when you are looking for a 'HOTFIX'?!
Have a great day everyone and I will close here.
