Tom
I am having the same problem as described at
http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6122_102-0.html?forumID=44&threadID=234259&messageID=2407484
I have tried all tips there. Broken image fighter destroys red x, but then the red x re-appears.
Today, I upgraded XP Home SP1 to SP2; obtained all critical updates except IE 7 & Anti malware.
I don't know if the problem existed before upgrading to SP2.
Now, Red X Plague.
JRE 1.4 had been installed. I uninstalled it; then downloaded / installed JRE 1.6
OE 6 is not configured.
Popup blocker turned off in "privacy" and "security" tabs.
There are no auxiliary tool bars installed.
Problem occurs at multiple sites at which Java is used.
Verified java installed at www.java.com
FireFox is able to access the sites, without problems.
I hope you can help me resolve this IE 6 SP2 issue.
