Recycler Folder

Nov 19, 2003 7:06AM PST

I just re-installed Win XP Home on my Dell Inspiron 8500 with an NTFS format. I see a new folder on both my C:/ and D:/ that I didn't see prior to re-installing Win XP. "Recycler" is the name of the folder. When I searched for that name on the Microsoft site, it reported that the Recycler folder is associated with Win NT. What is this folder for in XP? Can I safely delete this folder? Thanks in advance.

If it's the real one, XP will either silently recreate it or won't let you.

Press the button.

Is this something new? My desktop, which also has Win XP, does not have this folder. When I open the folder, it appears similar to the Recycle Bin. What purpose does it serve?

You may have to use a more powerful viewer.

Explorer is programmed to hide things. I often show people the command prompt and the wonders of DIR \ /S/A/P

Another fine file explorer is Gyula's Navigator which will not shirk its duty to show you files and directories.
