Resolved Question

Recs to replace Toshiba MK8007GAH?

Jan 18, 2012 9:25AM PST

Hi! I have a Sony Vaio VGN-TX770P (circa 2005) and the hard drive is toast. I'm looking to preferrably upgrade the HD (replace as a minimum), but I'm having trouble assessing compatibility.

Info:
Windows XP machine
Toshiba HDD1584 MK8007GAH
1.8" form factor
PATA/IDE
80GB
4200RPM

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx!

AFAIK the limit is that XP. XP installs to 127GB or less GB

XP is the limit?

That does look like the correct manual for the Toshiba HD I have. I had seen the Samsung ones, but they seemed targeted towards Apple products and I wasn't sure how the compatibility may be affected. Good to know it should work.

The Vaio TX is capable of running Win 7 (meets only min req), if that makes a difference. However, I think 120GB should be sufficient to reload the OS and have basic storage. I can always use an ext HD for add'l space if needed.

Thanks for your help!

That mention of Apple usually means the iPod

The iPod used a ZIF flat cable connection and yours is the LIF with pins and sockets.

I was not able to find any larger drive.
