Recoverying Data from a Crashed Hdd. I really new help, plz!

Hi everyone,
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Does anyone know how to Recover Data from a Crashed Hard Drive? My Dell Dimension desktop crash a few days ago and a message came up on the screen stating that you should back up all data on the hdd and replace it with a new one. If anyone knows, please answer my question. Thanks.

Since you've posted to a couple of the forums. I realize that 'many answers/heads' are better than one, and have also posted questions I've needed answers to across multiple forums, but I've found over the years that for the ones who are trying to help, it gets confusing when answers are coming from various areas that we have to bounce to so we aren't repeating the information. Just a heads up..we've all done it.....not a lecture.
