I'd have a look in my browsers cache (in IE: Temporary Internet Files).

Thnx .Could you pl. guide me how to open temp files and save them.

We can't say

because we don't know what chat program you are using, and even if we did their software could store temporary files anywhere on the hard drive.

But like Kees says a good place to start is in Internet Explorer's Temporary Internet Files, (TIF), cache.

To do that, open IE and go to Tools > Internet Options, then in the General tab click the Settings button for "Browsing history". In the new window click both the "View files" and "View objects" buttons.

I've seen all temp files as suggested but it does not show the files of any of the various chat records.
I'm using Google Chrome and video chatting is through gmail accounts.

I've been able to reach the files but am unable to open them. I don't have Winbubble.
I'm stuck after I've reached User Data\Default folder in my Explorer.
The second article says "Open the Database by pressing CTRL+O"
but nothing happens with it. I tried to open the files by double clicking then it asks for the program to open it.

Sorry. I'm not an expert and need guidance at every step.

you need that WinBubble to carry through with this, and not only that, but also added something called "Open with Notepad" Context Menu." to WinBubble itself.

Chrome isn't making this easy. I have to wonder how much effort you are willing to put into this.

I'll download Winbubble and try to add "Open with Notepad" Context Menu" to WinBubble as suggested by you.
I'll put in as much efforts as needed but I must do it.
I hope you'll continue guiding me.

No need for WinBubble.

http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/chrome/TjNEte2WkQg tells the location of the cache folder for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.

I don't have Chrome, so I can't check what's in that cache. In IE it's just the files in some subfolder, easy to search in and open any file you want. In Firefox it's an ununderstandable complex of 256 subfolders, meant (according to another poster here last year) to hide the contents of the cache from viewing by its rightful owner (him). He made quite a point of it.

I've just looked at mine
Jun 26, 2012 10:46PM PDT

I do have Chrome although I don't use it much.

I've just navigated to my Chrome caches, and I'm not so sure. All the data appears to be in SQLite format. They open in Notepad fine, (as long as I don't tell Windows to use Notepad for this type of file continuously), but understanding the contents is a different matter.

As the OP wants to extract videos, I expect they will need the "Media Cache", (I just found it), but whether they will be in any recognisable format I am unsure.

I'm thinking this is getting too problematical and difficult.

Assuming a chat is streaming video, it isn't saved anywhere, I think. That's the idea of stremaing. If I had thought of that earlier, I wouldn't even have suggested looking in the TIF.

If I'm right (but I'm often wrong, of course), it's not only problematical, it's impossible.

Kees

PS. And I wonder what "video chat photos" are. Do you have any idea? Maybe if you have a photo of something and keep that before your webcam for the other side to see? Then, technically speaking, it's a still a video, not a photo.

I downloaded Winbubble but it wont open.
Then how to add the "Open with Notepad" Context Menu.
How do I reach "Media Cache".

Perhaps you can tell us

what video chat photos are?

As Kees so rightly points out, video chats are often 'streamed', like YouTube videos, so nothing is saved onto the hard drive.

So what are you expecting to be able to retrieve and from what software?

I'm also thinking this is too difficult if not impossible.

I'm sure there are ways to record video such as video chats, but the recording software must be installed and up and running before the video chat commences.

This sub-thread is fast approaching maximum. If you don't see a "Reply" button for my post then reply to your own top post, the one you originally posted. We will find it.

I'm prepared to face the difficulties however sever it may be.
If it is any how possible, I'd like to retrieve a video chat record with whatever is there on the screen while chatting.

Then there is
Jun 28, 2012 4:52AM PDT

little more I can offer you.

I can't say much about why Winbubble won't open. Normally when I download software I save the installer file to the hard drive then run that to install the application. I can only open the application once it is installed.

From there all other steps should be achievable, but I've never used that software so I don't know.
