recovery of Pagemaker 6.5 files

Mar 6, 2018 2:48AM PST

I have some computer files of books I had published some years ago in PageMaker 6.5 which is of course no longer current. Sadly I have lost my original disk so am unable thus far to retrieve the text. My reason for wanting to access these files is that I want to re-publish and donate all the proceeds to our very small locally run mental health group which is struggling to survive. I have tried InDesign and various other software which is supposed to recover these Phoenix files . None of these works: they just return gibberish. Can anyone advise please? Any help greatly appreciated!

Thank you

So the usual InDesign didn't open it?

PS. Adding with edit. You tried InDesign so your next stop is Adobe support. Start at

More: finds this old app for sale from 20 to more dollars. If you feel you need to go back to the old version, this is how folk do this today. Get the CD and key from ebay and maybe an old PC to do the work on.

Recovering PageMaker 6.5 files
May 28, 2018 12:06AM PDT

I still work with PageMaker 6.5 files which I keep on a laptop running Windows XP. If I need to, I can print directly to a wireless network printer or create and copy PDF documents to a flash drive and re-open on PC running Windows 8.1. Larger files can be uploaded to Dropbox.

For your book project, do you need to retrieve the original PageMaker documents so you can convert to PDF files or do you want to extract the text to copy into another program (such as Word). How do you plan to re-publish? Are you posting to a website, creating an eBook, submitting to an industry publication, or something else?
