Recovering e-mail messages - Outlook Express

Jun 24, 2005 11:29PM PDT

I am running win-xp-he OS, and use MS IE 6.0/Outlook Express. I have e-mail messages on a hd that won't boot, but I can still access the files (which are ok) from a second hd. Is there any way that I can recover my e-mail messages that are on the defective drive?

Thanks,
Ray savage

All those messages are in .dbx files in one folder (depends on your OS and settings, so I can't tell which one). You can easily find it by searching for inbox.dbx in Windows Explorer.
From a working version of Outlook Express, then use File>Import>Message ... You need to tell you want to import from Outlook Express, and browse to the folder on your old hard disk the old messages are located in.

Hope this helps.

Kees:
Thanks for your prompt reply and suggestions. For some reason, the message files would not "Import"; however, I was able to move them from the old drive to the functioning drive using the "Send To" Command. The files were located in "Documents and settings\Ray\Local Settings\Applications Data\Identities." Thanks again for putting me on the right tract to recover my messages.

Best regards,
Ray
