Recover xp product key from crashed HD/ backed up.

by jaggy13 / July 9, 2009 8:16 AM PDT

I have a network storage drive that I have backed up all system files and data on my SOHO network. I tucked my product key away a little to securely and can not find it. I believe I have all of the data needed to locate the product key easily on my backup drive. How would I point a registry editor at the hives in my backup drive? or is there a command line command I can try?
I'm sure there is an easy solution, I am just a little stumped at the moment. I have my new drive and am ready to install, Thanks in advance!

drive failing to spin up correctly

In reply to: Link only.

This drive is pretty toasted.
I have it installed as a USB drive currently.
I can open computer management and click "reactivate disk" It will come online for about 30 seconds and then back offline.
If I try to boot with the drive installed IDE it will hang at boot and not load windows.
If I wipe this drive will that software linked reach beyond the formating and reteive the info I need? Not really sure how else to gather this Data. (about to throw the drive in the freezer, I've never witnessed it work but have heard the legends.)
