recover data from a partition

by cooperte / July 8, 2009 11:32 PM PDT

I've got a problem..

My laptop died, and I have lots of old photos, old college notes, CVs, docs etc. My laptop had one hard drive with two partitions. I had windows on C partition and all my documents on D partition. I now have a new laptop, but I'd like to try and recover the information (or whatever information I can) from it.

I've tried reformatting C and reinstalling windows with the startup disk, and after a few attempts I managed it. I had the windows desktop and opened My Documents (partition D) and everything was there, so I thought I'd been successful. I stupidly powered down the laptop because I had to go out before I'd moved everything to a memory stick and when I rebooted the laptop it wouldn't start again.. just getting various blue screen messages. I've tried reformatting a few times and reinstalling windows but it's not working now.

Has anyone any ideas of other ways of getting my files?

Would appreciate any advice!

Cheers,

Terry
