Recording vocal only demos

Jan 6, 2008 4:14AM PST

What would you recommend to a singer/songwriter for recording vocal only demos. I have Windows XP. I am using the Windows Voice recorder,
Wavepad/Slice/Switch (these are NCH programs)? Is there a easier more efficient way that doesn't cost a fortune? Either stand-alone hardware or software? Is there any type of mixing/instrumental adding that a person with no instrumental ability can use. I have Magix Music Studio, but it seems way to complicated for me?
