General discussion

recording sport. with overhead cam.

Mar 13, 2006 11:11AM PST

Hello all,
I need to record sport match's from an overhead view for coaching purposes. The cameras will be fixed mounted obove a 150' x100' court and I need to capture all corners. I have 4 courts and need 4 cameras that can transmit a signal back to a computer for recording and editing. I attempted using a man lift and a canon XL1 but focal length required I be very far back and up capture the whole playing area. I need some help.
Thank you,
Tom

This is why other lenses are sold for such cameras. Also, you could simplify this with DVRACK on laptops connected to each camera and use remote controls to the laptops.

1. What is a DV RACK (?)

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=DVRACK found it. Great stuff.

2. and are any network cameras equal quality to upper end DV camcorders.

That will require some discussion. If I use DVRACK with a DV camcorders then I can write yes since I have a network to bring it all together.

Remember that my background is embedded electronics design with forays into CCTV, industrial control, automatic test and systems integration. As such, this system could be crafted to be up and working within a day. However to create some frontend to it beyond remote control of the remote cameras would take some time. But about a day to string it all together and get the footage.

If nothing else you need to know about DVRACK. Get a demo.

Bob,
Thanks for the help, I am thinking 4 mid-range comcorders and a laptop based "switching device would be the coolest. Does such an animal exist. Are there any older camcorders still avail. for purchase without all the bells and whistles just to function as a networkcam of sorts to get the action back to the laptop.
