Recording Help!!

Apr 1, 2006 1:34PM PST

I just switched from regular cable to DirectTV. Hooking up the VCR in sequence apparently does not allow for pre-programmed recording as with cable set to channel 3/4. DirectTV Tech Support says you cannot program a VCR with Satellite TV the way you did with regular cable.

My wife must have Days of Our Lives recorded from 12-1 pm. The VCR is still set to record, as with previous cable, and the satellite station is, ironically, Channel 10 also.

What specifically changes the process with satellite TV since it is still a signal from a satellite receiver instead of straight from the wall?

Any assistance, reference would be greatly appreciated.

your directtv box should have an RF out to tv (coax output). since you change channels through the directtv receiver now, u can't set ur vcr to channel 10.

heres how i'd hook it up..coax from wall to directtv receiver. coax from direct tv receiver to vcr. rca or coax from vcr into tv.

so set your vcr to 3/4. then remember to leave directtv on channel 10 while your vcr is on 3/4. so at 12-1pm, your vcr will record whatever is on 3/4 which should be channel 10 on the directtv box. this will work unless someone changes it to another channel other then 10.

btw, have you ever considered a dvr?

You are right, the only way to deal with recording a satellite system (and maintain your sanity) is to use their DVR receiver. I have two of them and it is the only way to watch TV.
