recording from vhs to dvd recorder to play on laptop

Jan 29, 2005 11:01AM PST

Hello,
I am getting very frustrated; I have a wonderful collection of vhs movies and would like to transfer them to dvd so that I can play them on my laptop when I am traveling and on our boat.
I have recorded a couple movies..on the proper dvd's requested by manufaturers of dvd recorder and laptop..They play fine on the dvd players and recorders but when I try and play them on my laptop or my husbands; they won't play past chapter 3. I hope someone can explain why this is; as I have spent allot of money so far on systems and software..
Thank you
maggie

recording from vhs to dvd recorder and playing on lap top

Thanks for your response. As per software in recording, you do not need that as it is a dvd player recorder, that I am using to record my vhs movies.
On my lapop I have both Microsft media and Intervideo Win DVD. i have tried both and both play the movie for 30 minutes and then quit...it won't play anymore. If i try to play it on dvd players...no problem. And when i put original dvd's in lap top..again no problem.
I hope this explains it better.

Look forward to your response.
