Recording audio cassette tapes to CD or DVD

Feb 28, 2004 11:03AM PST

I have many voice only lectures on audio cassete which I would like to record to CD (or DVD). Is it possible to simply connect my cassette unit output into the mic in on my computer to do this? If this creates a .wav file can it then be recorded onto the CD in my computer CD burner?
I know this may seem elemental but I keep getting different answers from the local stores.
