record tv shows to my hard drive

I have an emachine with a amd athlon 2650e processor runninng 1.6ghz, 1g ddr2 memory, 160g hdd, dvd-rw, and i would like to record my favorite shows to my hard drive while i'm at work so i could watch them later. i do have high speed internet an a wireless network. any help would be appreciated.

Want to save downloaded shows from tv to hard drive in hd and play back on my lcd tv which has a computer input setting. have 1t 7200 external hard drive.
