recommended program for capturing/making dvds?

Dec 18, 2005 7:34AM PST

hi all. i've been using nero express 3 to capture my video from my minidv tapes onto my hard drive and then going through the steps to make dvds but my question is this: although nero express 3 is simple enuf, is there a program that you like better and if so, what is it?

i like the fact that nero is so easy BUT the picture quality seems a little less than what i can get if i use premiere. also, nero gives me the dumb default chapter headings that look like this:

1. Chapter 1

that's so stupid and redundant. of course, i can change the "Chapter 1" part but i DON'T want the numbers before the chapter headings!

anyway, if you know of a program that is fairly easy to use and gives the user a lot of options, i'm all ears. thanks for any sugggestions you may have.

How are you capturing??? USB???If so that is why the picture quality is poor. Your MiniDV has a firewire port, get a firewire card for your PC. Useing firewire the quality will 4 times better. Nero is now at version 7. There are at lot of good programs out there, read some of the other posts. the link below has a lot of good info. John

usb vs firewire

hi. no, i'm using a firewire connection but thanks for mentioning it because that is an important factor.

i was asking mainly because i wanted a program that gives me the user a little more control. i understand that some programs are easy because they don't give the user too many options but i find that a bit of a problem for me because i want to create my own buttons and label the chapters the way i want to vs what nero gives me. anyway, for all its limitations, nero's pretty good. (i've got version 7).

thanks for your comments Happy
