Let me share what I use.

1. Cooler. I use a small 1/2 inch high "rubber stick" that the rear of the laptop sits on and tilts it just so. All that air space lets the machine run cool. Cost = free. Scavenged from my tool box.

2. Router. I've used many over the years but recently changed to a wrtn2000 (or similar model number) by Linksys because I wanted the OpenDNS parental controls. Cost = 35 bucks at geeks.com refurb.

Hope this helps you find your solutions.

If you want inexpensive look at Trendnet at Compusa. I've installed a couple and they work great. At Best Buy you will pay a little more for Dlink, Netgear,Linksys and Belkin to name a few. If you try buy.com you might see a wireless N router for the price that Best Buys sells it's G routers.
