Recommendations on accounting software

Oct 5, 2010 1:27AM PDT

I have been using MYOB for years but as that company has been taken over by Mamut, I find that in December 2011, my version of MYOB will cease to function and become read-only. I have the option to upgrade to Mamut AccountEdge, of course, but would then be faced with paying their extortionate annual 'service fee'.

The obvious solution is to find a new package. I would need something for a small/medium sized business that could handle VAT and must be multi-currency. Would need to run under OSX 10.5.

Many thanks for any help.

Hi,

We use Moneyworks www.cognito.co.nz in the UK - it has VAT reports and works great. It has multi currency but our company does not use that feature. - Its also much faster that MYOB.

MYOB UK ceasing to operate

I am also a small and medium enterprise using MYOB and have been advised by MAMUT that the data file will become read only after 31/12/2011. I have taken legal advice form a UK government advisory ('Consumer Direct') and am now discussing with MYOB Australia who apparently owns the rights over Mamut, to find a solutiuon so that my copy of MYOB v15 data files stop requiring the online file confirmation process. FYI, the Australian version is fully compatible and a simple cross-version conversion is possible. I have given them until mid-july to fulfil my request failing which I will sue them (MAMUT&MYOB) and move for the full reimbursement of any migration to another software, including implementation, training and total of my legal costs + travel to UK if need be. I can forward to you and to anybody faing the same problem, all the correspondance with Mamut & MYOB Australia. Odd ideas.

I've read many software licenses and all indemnify the authors and owners of the software from such actions. I'm sure that anyone can mount a legal quest on any idea but given the time since this title went out of circulation and the license as it is, your legal actions surely would cost you more than the usual move to another software.

MYOB/Mamut

I just wondered how you got on with MYOB continuation via MYOB-Australia. Were they helpful? Did youre issue get resolved. I am in the same boat and do not want to move to the Mamut equivalent product and have been a big fan of MYOB for 11 years. I'd also like to continue and am interested in using the Australian version as long as I can manually set up our 20% vat system (I dont need payroll- so lack of tax tables is not an issue)
