Some i5 or i7, 8 or more GB RAM and a 240GB or larger SSD for overall speed.
CD burning is fading away so if you are like me I opted for a model with no DVDRW but added a 30 dollar USB DVDRW to my bag.
OK, what about the Dell XPS with the 5th gen i5 noted at http://hothardware.com/reviews/dell-xps-13-2015-ultrabook-hothardwares-full-review?page=6

I am pondering buying a new laptop in the next month or so. I really like the looks and reviews of the Alienware ones. However they are pricey and my friends say that it is a waste of money since I am not a gamer. But I love that they are fast. I detest slow computers. So I am wondering if I could reach out and get some recommendations that may fit my wish list. I like fast computers. I am not someone that buys a laptop every year so I want something reliable that will last a few years or more. I want a dvd player/writer. I do not want a touch screen. The laptop I have had for the past 4 years is an HP and it has been an alright computer but a little slow and the wifi doesn't seem to pick up signal as well as other brands if that makes sense. So I do not want another HP. I mostly use my computer to surf/shop online, emails, facebook, downloading and watching movies, netflix and also burning cd/dvd's. I am comfortable spending possibly 500 to 800. Anything more than that makes me a little uncomfortable for spending on a laptop. Any sugestions will be much appreciated and welcome! Thank youu.
