Recommendation? Notebook or Handheld?

Mar 31, 2005 2:52AM PST

Hi, all. I'm delving into new waters here. I've read lots of the reviews about different products and would like to hear from people who've actually used them.

I'm thinking of getting either a tablet/handheld PC or a notebook. Mainly for web research and email (no movies, MP3s, etc.). I'll want to use this in WiFi hotspots. (Limited internet connectivity where I live.)

So, does anyone have any recommendations for a quality, affordable (about $1,000) portable product for WiFi internet connectivity? I'll probably load it with email, word processing and spreadsheet software for some other work, so I'd like something with a little zip to it too.

What worked well? What didn't work? Does WiFi give you a good solid connection to the net? Anything in particular I should watch out for?

Thanks for your help.
Brent
