The players I recommend to play .mkv in IPhone or IPad is VLC player there is a procedure to download it
1. Install VLC player from IPhone App Store.
2. Now Simply connect your device whether it is IPhone or Ipad
3. Then Launch iFunBox .
4. On left corner there is an option "iFun Box Classic"click on it and your connected device will be there double click on it and look for an option "Raw File System" and open it .
5. Look for "User" folder and open "Applications" folder
6. All apps listed on your device will be there.
7. Then look for VLC Player and open it now open the folder "Documents"
8. The only thing that you have to do now is to copy your mkv or other format files in this folder by using "Copy from PC" option.
9. After your files have been copied open "VLC" app in your device and play the files.

VLC has direct wifi upload on a home wifi network. On your PC or Mac's web browser of choice, you simply enter the IP address visible in VLC when you turn on wifi upload. Then click on 'upload', then navigate to the file in question.
