recommend Network Storage for PC and Mac?

Sep 19, 2010 4:54AM PDT

Hi, long time lurker, first time poster (please excuse me).

After several years computing, I'm still a novice. I have a home set-up with a Mac (myself), PC (fiancee) and a Netbook PC.

I'd like to set-up a 1 or 2TB networked hard drive that all computers can access (mainly audio, video and photograph files), and also a piggy-backed external drive into that Networked drive purely as to back it all up.

I was told to steer clear of WD (as they were too slow) and warned about HP (running too hot) - can anyone recommend me a Network drive?

Thanks.

I'm thinking the Time Machine.

And don't get lulled into thinking this is BACKUP. If you drive your copies down to one copy on some hard drive, this is where too many learn the lesson about backup.

time machine - network or back-up to networked drive?
Sep 19, 2010 5:55AM PDT

I was going to use a regular 1 or 2TB external piggy-backed on the Network drive (usb slot?) as a back-up.

Do you think the Time Machine (Apple?) would be a good Network drive for both PC and Mac?

I didn't realise Time Machine was just software.
