by Vince855 / November 3, 2017 2:15 PM PDT

I am using currently Avast free and Malwarebytes. What else could I add with that? Adguard addon in browser?

Seems complete to me.

I'm using W10's Defender, and Opera VPN when I feel the need. I have yet to find any virus or malware in a few years.

Can I ask if you are visiting bad sites and downloading Torrents? That requires a level of protection that isn't known yet. It's that dangerous.

Why are you going threw all this trouble?

Your going to add multiple layers of protection and you won't know who's blocking what.

Keep it simple.

What do you care about ransomware?
Wipe the hdd and spin in your backup.
Problem fixed.

What you have looks fine.
If you want to clean up your browser a little look into ublock origin.

Ransomware is a high level threat

On my work there was a ransomware infection, many documents were lost. I don`t want that to happen to my storage disk. Multiple layers of protection are always good, once set up I simply forget about them and feel safe Happy

From what I've been reading is a self induced problem.

Keep your machine patched and keep avast up to date.

No need for all those extra products.
They just consume system resources, might not play nice together and will give you a headache when trying to figure out why some function does not work anymore.
You've been reading too much marketing hype.

Your work lost those docs because they don't have a good backup plan.
Do you?

No backup but Avast is not almighty

Yes, on work they had no backup plan. Like i said I would feel better if I had double layer of protection, what can past through Avast witout detection would probably fail on the second layer of protection.

I see that Malwarebytes have some program from ransomware but I think it is only trial.

Go for it.
Put as many layers of protection as you want.

Does no backup mean you don't have a backup plan?
If so that's not a good way to run one of these machines.

Wait, no backups?

Forget for a moment everything else. The most common reason for losing files is, you guessed it. The oops.

That is, one wrong move and files are gone.
Next after that in my experience is machine or drive failure.
After some other reasons, finally ransomware and virus/trojan damage.

Here I'm using...

Windows Defender (good enough now) and Web Of Trust and Ublock Origin to beef things up.
That said, I don't torrent or visit dodgy sites or unknown links.

What makes you think you need more?

I'm using avast free but only 3 shields.

You can harden up avast a little by setting the scan for pups option.

I'm over 7 seven years with this rig and other than testing with the eicar files I don't think I've ever seen the thing trigger.
