How about the Rio Nitrous?

I don't have it, but I wanted it. It is not a sport player, but i has some pretty nice features. It is 1,536 MB of space (1.5 gig) which is a little more than you wanted, and it is a hard disk player, not a flash. Try it out. It comes in a smooth black which is also a nice feature.

If you don't like that, you could go for a 64MB RCA Lyra and boost it with a 512MB SD or MMC card. Lyras are sport players (I have one), have flash memory, come with a program function (create your own playlists), and display the song title. When I bought mine at Wal-Mart, it came with their famous clip-on headphones (best available), an AAA battery (only requires one), and a wristband. Be careful though; the battery holder can break easily, which is why I got a new player that is also a digital camera, camcorder, voice recorder, and webcam (Aiptek DV4500).

Ichiban 1GB AFM-30
May 11, 2005 3:35PM PDT

it's the latest product which supports JPEG and MPEG 4 formats. So you can actually watch video clips on it, though the screen is rather small. the sound quality is also good, with SRS WOW. however i'm not very sure whether this brand is reliable...

I hv one and it's great !!! here's why..

Intro------
Actually, Ichiban might be a local brand doing cheap LCD and DVD player.. but its a very exceptional case for this MP3 player and thats why I bought one.

The REAL player------
When I was in HK i wanted this mp3 player call E3, which later i found that Spore is selling it but rebadge it as Ichiban.

Do a google search of "E3 e1000" and you will find heaps of reviews but mostly in chinese... overall a very positive review so far i seen.

Fuction/Usage------
for $299 and 1 gig, together with a lcd screen that is able to play mp4 movie file, its difinitely something standing out from the rest of the crowd.

It has everything u would expect-mp3/mwa etc. plus videos, fm, voice record, thumb drive etc. Added bonus would be the color lcd screen so.. yay. Transfer speed is fast enough to get 500mb of mp3 transferred in bout 2-3 mins time.

Sound quality is good but the earphone is not.. so change it please. I am using it with a Koss KSC-35/55 also panasonic RP-HJE50 which couple it greatly!

The multi directional jog dial might be tricky but after a while u will get used to it.. but big hands might find it too tiny to control.

Battery life is ok, like what it suggest, its about 10 hrs use but if the screen is switched on too much it drop to 8-9 hrs playback.

Build is good.. high quality plastic that feels like steel made.

Cons-------
-Only USB charger... however managed to get a 240v plug to USB converted for SGD7.50
-Lousy earphones but thats pretty much expected
-Battery life only moderate but 8-9 hrs use is sufficient even at long hrs travelling (just charged it whenever possible)
-Headphone jack on the side.. if u were wear it on your neck then its better to hv it on top rather.

overall.. a good buy.

Nex IIe

How about a Nex IIe by Frontier Labs. They are rugged, cheap and you are not limited to any memory size because they use Compact Flash cards, which seem to get cheaper and cheaper, It works as an external hard drive, it supports folders and its very easy to use. They sound quality of this player is outstanding in this price range. And another nice feature is that it takes 2 AA Batteries, which last forever and are available everywhere...

I cannot see them at the Frontier Labs website anymore but they still can be found NEW on eBay for around 50.00
