Looking for a Windows 10 laptop for my college-bound son. Hoping that it will last 4 yrs without needing a new one.

There are sooooo many choices! Its driving me crazy.

Desired:
i7 (4th gen OK)
16 GB RAM
15" multi-touchscreen (IPS preferred)
256 GB SSD (can be M1 or smaller if necessary, but prefer this size or larger). Could drop the HD if SSD is big enough
1 TB HD
light
reliable
no (or less) bloatware (I'll uninstall all of it anyway...)
kitchen sink

My budget is $1500 +/- some. I can spend more on a perfect system.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.
Aloke

MS has said you can upgrade to 10 if you wish
Jul 23, 2015 5:37PM PDT

MS said several weeks ago that any computer you buy in June or July with 7 or 8 will be upgradable to 10 for free, if desired. Of course if you wait 'till the 29th, 10 will be officially released as Bob mentioned. My favorite brands for laptops are Toshiba and Dell. If you buy from Dell, you can customize to just about whatever you want, and they will show you the price as you make changes.

Good luck.

Windows 8.1 vs 10 is not the issue
Jul 23, 2015 7:07PM PDT

My question was about laptop hardware and not the OS.

Even each manufacturer (Toshiba, Dell, Lenovo etc) has a z gazillion combinations. I was hoping to hear from someone who has gone through a similar search and found a good product.
