Reception in Hi-Rise in Chicago

I currently have verizon phone Samsung SCH-A530. I live on the 46th floor of a hi-rise in chciago (lake view). I do not get very good reception at all. I have had to resort to installing a land line in order to make calls at home. However my friends have had better luck with US Cellular and Sprint. I am curious if anyone has any thoughts on Cingular and their GSM phones? My verizon phone operates on CDMA and I hear GSM may have a better chance of getting through the walls. Does anyone have any advice? I would like to find a phone that will work best in my apt.
