Recently Viewed gone missing!

At first all I wanted to do was to disable the auto search on Start. This's what I did.

Typed in Services.
Clicked into it.
Scrolled down to Windows Search, right clicked, clicked properties, disabled start up type, clicked stop and exited.

Right clicked Start, clicked Properties, Customized the Start Menu, unchecked the following..

Search communications
Search favorites and history

Then selected under that the following..

Don't search for files

Under that I unchecked the following..

Search programs.

After all that, later I noticed my Recently Viewed when you click into Start was missing. I reversed everything and it's still gone. How do I get it back?

... System Restore. However, since you have somehow disabled the servive, files you have opened after the changes may not be there, but hopefully, the previous list...Or you may lost the list. You need to open new files to create a new list.

I did it, but it didn't work. I made a text document, opened it, went to check and noticed it's not listed. Argh. So many things with Vista I hate, but can't afford the ugrade. Lol. I don't know what system restore is or how it works. I just got this HP laptop from the store as a present and it came with Windows Vista already put on it. 32bit version.
